Statutory Pay Rate Increases

As of 1 April 2018, the statutory rates of pay for family-related leave will increase. This relates to maternity, paternity, shared parental and adoption leave.

The statutory weekly rate of pay will rise from £140.98 to £145.18 (or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings if less that this amount) for maternity, paternity and shared parental leave.  Adoption leave is paid at 90% of an employee’s average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks of leave and the remainder of the leave period at £145.18 (or 90% of average weekly earnings if less than this amount).

 

How to prepare…

  • Check employees currently on family-related leave start and end dates
  • Ensure company policies are updated
  • Issue notification to affected employees
  • Ensure information is relayed to payroll department

 

Statutory Sick Pay

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will increase from the current rate of £89.35 to £92.05 per week, and is expected to come into force on 6 April 2018. An employee is entitled to SSP if their average weekly earnings are equal to, or more than, the lower earnings limit, which will increase to £116.00 from £113.00.
